Friday August 8, 2008— Armed Robbery at Tattoo Shop
Cooperation and communication between the Morgan Hill, San Jose and Hollister Police Departments led to the arrest of two suspects within three hours of their alleged armed robbery of the Fine Line Ink tattoo shop in Morgan Hill.
The robbery occurred at approximately 4:30pm on August 8 at the tattoo shop located at 17865 Monterey Road. One suspect had entered the shop and simulated a handgun, while the other stood by the door as a lookout. When officers responded to the call, they learned two Hispanic male suspects had fled the area in a light colored Hyundai after obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. After witnesses provided Morgan Hill Police with detailed descriptions of the suspects, the information was broadcast to all surrounding police agencies.
San Jose Police received the description and determined that a similar male subject in the same model of vehicle had been contacted by one of their officers earlier that day. San Jose Police responded to the address listed on the suspect’s vehicle registration. They then learned that the vehicle was in the possession of owner’s boyfriend, who matched the description of one of the robbery suspects. The information was forwarded to the MHPD, who determined that the suspect was on active parole and lived in Hollister.
The Hollister Police Department located the suspect’s vehicle in the area of his listed address, stopped the car and arrested the two suspects without incident. Edward Macias, 32, and Jimmy Miranda, 37, were both on active parole and fit the suspect’s description. They were then transferred to the Morgan Hill Police Department where they were booked on robbery, conspiracy and parole violations. They are now in Santa Clara County Jail.
According to MHPD Commander David Swing, the location and arrest of these suspects was a great example of intra-agency cooperation. “Had it not been for the efforts of San Jose and Hollister PD, we would not have caught the suspect so quickly, or possibly at all. San Jose was quick to provide possible suspect identification and officers in Hollister made the arrest within three hours of when the robbery occurred.”
