The third annual Silicon Valley Puzzle Day will take place this weekend at the Morgan Hill Library, featuring special guest and four-time American Crossword Puzzle Tournament champion Tyler Hinman. On Feb. 7 and 8, the library located at 660 W. Main Ave. will be filled with puzzle lovers ready to compete at crossword, Sudoku, Scrabble and other brainteasers. Puzzle workshops will be held Saturday for all levels and ages of puzzle lovers, subjects including “Sudoku for Kids,” “Constructing and Solving the Really Tough Puzzles,” and “Killer Sudoku.”

There will be a Puzzle Party at the Morgan Hill Ramada Inn on Saturday night, from 6-10pm. Tickets cost $40, used to raise funds for the Morgan Hill Library Foundation. The evening will include food, music, fun and puzzles, as well as a special presentation from Hinman, who was also a contributor to the film "Wordplay," a documentary about puzzle enthusiasts.

Tournaments begin on Sunday, judged by Hinman, world Sudoku champion Thomas Snyder and puzzle constructor Byron Walden. A final awards ceremony will take place at 4:30pm Sunday, where prizes will be handed out.

If you would like to participate in Silicon Valley Puzzle Day, pre-registration is free and highly recommended. A donation of $20 a person is appreciated to help organized next year’s event. Visit www.svpuzzle.org for more information.
