Joseph Amaral, a 39-year-old narcotics registrant, was arrested at the Morgan Hill Police Department yesterday after two grams of methamphetamine were found in his pocket during his annual drug registration.

Amaral, who is on active probation for drug charges, traveled to the police department and was met in the lobby by an MHPD employee. He was taken into the department’s booking area to begin the registration process, where he was searched for weapons and paraphernalia.

During the search, the MHPD employee located a small plastic bag containing a white powdered substance within his front pocket.

Amaral was arrested for possession of a controlled substance after the powder, which weighed approximately two grams, tested positive for methamphetamine. He was later released, and his case was forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
