A single vehicle accident in the area of Condit Road and Dunne Avenues in Morgan Hill resulted in a fatality Thursday. When the MHPD and fire department arrived on the scene at 12:16pm, they found two occupants inside a Mitsubishi Eclipse crashed into a tree in front of Alpine RV.

Radio Waves Make Eco-Friendly Water Meter Readings
By combining radio waves, water meters and technology, the City of Morgan Hill is trying to help save the earth one drop at a time.
Anthony Eulo, Morgan Hill’s environmental program administrator, has announced that the City has nearly completed a “greener meters” project, in which city water meters will be replaced by high-tech radio meters.
During the current fiscal year, the city installed 1,000 of these more eco-friendly units that promise to make the city’s water meter reading process much faster and more cost effective.

W.C. Fields once said that filmmakers should never work with animals or children. But what if that’s all you want to do?
Director and producer Bryan Michael Stoller is currently filming a movie in Morgan Hill that is heavy on both animals and children. With the help of Sobrato High School film students, Stoller and his crew have been shooting scenes for his new family film “First Dog” at various locations around the city for the last few weeks.

Homeless individuals in South County will now have the option of going to the National Guard armory in Gilroy for a warm place to sleep this winter. Run by nonprofit EHC Lifebuilders, the cold weather shelter at 8940 Wren Avenue in Gilroy will be open every night from 6pm to 6am through the end of March.

Four suspects have been arrested by the MHPD for setting trashcan fires at Live Oak High School in the past three weeks, the most recent incident occurring yesterday. Tuesday morning, MHPD School Resource Officer Gary Cupps located a plastic water bottle containing a small amount of gasoline in an outside school trashcan. He called for back up, and while officers were on the scene, school officials notified them that a trash fire had been started on campus. The trash fire was extinguished by a teacher before the officers located the trashcan.

Will Help Prevent Wildfires
You may have nervously watched the smoke rising out of Henry Coe State Park today and thought back to Labor Day weekend last year when half the park burned in one of the largest fires in Santa Clara County's recorded history. But, no worries: it's a controlled burn, state fire officials said.

Embezzlement, 1061 Cochrane Road, 4:31pm. Two former Target employees, Victor Kalata, 20, and Samantha Williams, 20, were arrested for marking down store items for each other and stealing approximately $300 worth of shoes, DVD’s and games from Target.

“South Santa Clara County” showcases images of a rural and raucous past in Morgan Hill, Gilroy and points south
IT SEEMS South County is quite the treasure trove of fascinating photographic history. Although Arcadia Publishing has already issued two photo books in its Images of America series within the last five years on the pictorial history of cities Gilroy and Morgan Hill, it recently released a new addition, titled South Santa Clara County. Written by Sam Shueh, the book offers a mix of historical and modern snapshots that highlight the local lore and history of a part of what once was collectively known as the "Valley of the Heart's Delight."
